Roof Replacement Westport CT, Contemporary Home with Skylight Integration
This Westport contemporary had five skylights, every one of them leaking at the head flashing, and a roof that had taken a beating from coastal wind off Long Island Sound. The homeowners wanted to keep the skylights (they love the natural light in the open-plan kitchen) but stop the leaks for good. The fix is rarely the skylight itself; it's almost always the flashing kit and the surrounding underlayment.

Project Summary
- Roof Size
- ~24 squares (approx. 2,400 sq ft) with five Velux skylights
- Materials
- Architectural asphalt shingle (coastal high-wind grade) · Velux EDW step-flashing kits · GAF WeatherWatch ice & water shield · stainless fasteners (coastal upgrade)
- Timeline
- 1.5 days on-site (tear-off + skylight removal day 1; skylight re-set + install + flashing detail day 2 morning)
- Challenges Solved
- Three of the five skylights had original aluminum step flashing that had corroded in the salt-air environment. All five received new Velux EDW step-flashing kits and full ice & water shield wraps under the flashing. Two cracked decking panels around the skylight curbs were replaced.
